Retreat Manager Job Description

Purpose
The Retreat Manager’s primary responsibilities, with the Director’s help, are to schedule retreats for the upcoming year, oversee dissemination of the following year’s schedule, enroll retreat applicants into the correct retreats and handle the incoming cash flow. The Retreat Manager reports to Executive Director.

Responsibilities

  • Process phone, mail, email and web site requests and for retreat registrations
  • Prepares retreat information packets
  • Assist with the development and dissemination of retreat schedules for via print, website and newsletters
  • Assist in maintaining mailing list, web page, QuickBooks accounts
  • Assist with breakfast preparation and housekeeping as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills

  • Skill in MS Office Package, e-mail and Internet applications, etc. Web page editing a plus.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with a variety of individuals and groups
  • Ability to follow directions
  • Ability to work independently

Other desirable experiences

  • Must have an established meditative/contemplative practice
  • Willing to work weekends and holidays with varied days off
  • Willing to work in a steep, rugged in a remote location
  • Ability to live harmoniously in the intimate community of Southern Dharma staff

Buildings & Grounds Manager Job Description

Job Summary

The primary responsibilities of the Buildings and Grounds Manager are to assure that all of the buildings and equipment needed to keep Southern Dharma in operation are in good, safe, working condition and to maintain the grounds in a manner that renders them safe and attractive. The Buildings and Grounds Manager reports to the Director.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain grounds by mowing, brush cutting, road maintenance, firewood cutting, etc.
  • Maintain and coordinate repairs on vehicles and other equipment
  • Maintain SDRC buildings, to include electrical and plumbing systems, basic carpentry
  • Coordinate repairs by outside, trained personnel
  • Coordinate and supervise work of volunteers during retreats and other times
  • Take care of composting, recycling, and trash disposal
  • Occasional other duties as required that may vary depending on needs, e.g., picking retratants up at the airport, helping in kitchen during retreats, cleaning between retreats, etc.
  • Purchases tools and supplies necessary for maintaining and operating grounds and equipment (for purchases over $50 with approval of Executive Director)
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical work and carpentry
  • Knowledge of landscaping and horticulture
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance
  • Ability to safely operate a variety of machines including the chainsaw, mowers, grass trimmer, etc.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with a variety of individuals and groups
  • Ability to follow directions
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs

Experience / Requirements

  • Prior grounds or building maintenance experience required
  • Good driving record
  • Must obtain North Carolina drivers license within 30 days of employment
